DTG vs DTF on polyester and performance clothing

Polyester changes the decision.

DTG systems are generally optimised around suitable cotton garments. Epson's UK guidance explicitly says DTFilm is preferred for the best results on polyester. Brother's latest hybrid-platform information makes the same practical distinction, presenting DTG around cotton and DTF around polyester, blends and performance wear.

That makes DTF a more natural option to investigate for football shirts, gym tops, performance teamwear and some polyester workwear.

But polyester presents its own production issues. Some dyed synthetic garments can release colour under heat, and some technical fabrics are sensitive to pressing temperature or have finishes that affect adhesion. A professional printer therefore needs the exact garment, not just the word “polyester”, before treating a method as confirmed.

Which method feels softer?

For many comparable T-shirt jobs, DTG normally gives the softer hand, particularly on suitable light cotton where there is no heavy white base.
